If you decide to purchase a second computer for your home, many people will tell you that you have to buy a router. They lead you to believe that this is the only way that both systems will be able to operate at the same time. This is a myth that many people believe, and they continue to pass this faulty information on to others. I’m not sure where the tale originated, but my guess is that sales associates started it to ensure that consumers would purchase an expensive router - which boosts their sales and qualifies them for larger commission checks. The truth is that you do not have to buy a router. You can purchase a much less expensive cat 5 crossover cable. This cable connects the two computers directly, without the need for a router.
